Transatlantic Challenges and Friendship

Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert and Dr. Gerhard Wahlers in Washington, DC

The focus of this year's visit to the U.S. of Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, KAS Chairman and former President of the German Bundestag, and Dr. Gerhard Wahlers, Deputy Secretary General of the Foundation, was on the state of transatlantic relations on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of NATO and the German-Jewish relationship.

Prof. Lammert and Dr. Wahlers met, among others, Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt, Special Envoy, Office of Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism, U.S. Department of State, former Congressman Charlie Dent, the Catholic Archbishop of Washington, Wilton Cardinal Gregory, and numerous representatives of think tanks and international organizations. Well over 100 visitors attended a reception at the KAS USA office titled "Ein Zeichen der Freundschaft – A Mark of Friendship”. Guests of honor included Congressman Jamie Raskin and Ted Deutsch, CEO of the American Jewish Committee (AJC). Guests also included the German participants of this year's "KAS-AJC Exchange Seminar", who traveled to New York, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta.
