Perspectives on a Christian Democratic Peace Policy for Our Time.

The 103rd Catholic Day took place in Erfurt from 29th May to 2nd June 2024. It was held under the motto "The Future Belongs to the Person of Peace". On the occasion of Catholic Day, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung held its traditional reception for representatives from politics, the church, academia, and the press, as well as interested Catholic Day visitors. Due to multiple crises at home and abroad, the focus was on the issue of a Christian Democratic peace policy for our time.

In his welcome address, Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, Chairman of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and former President of the German Bundestag, recalled the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany and its preamble, which commits German democracy to serve peace in the world.

In the greetings from Dr. Georg Bätzing, Chairman of the German Bishops' Conference and Bishop of Limburg, and Dr. Irme Stetter-Karp, President of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK), the call for greater involvement of politics and society in current social developments was clearly emphasised.

In his keynote, Friedrich Merz MdB, Chairman of the CDU of Germany and the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, made it clear that peace in freedom obliges Christian Democrats and that Christian Democratic policy is guided by human dignity and will never make decisions on matters of war and peace lightly.
