During his stay in Rio de Janeiro and Brasília, the member of the Bundestag visited think tanks, diplomatic missions, government agencies, economic institutions, the headquarters of the KAS partner party PSDB (Partido da Social Democracia Brasileira) and Brazilian universities. He gained an insight into the current challenges and developments in Brazilian domestic politics, German-Brazilian relations and the future of the strategic association agreement between the European Union and the Mercosul. He also discussed Brazil's position on the Russian aggression to Ukraine, the reorientation of Brazilian foreign policy and the country's role in the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, South Africa) alliance. Mr. Beyer also participated as a keynote speaker in the webinar on German-Brazilian cooperation of the Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI), an expert discussion with representatives of the trade agency APEX Brasil as well as the Ministry of Industry and Foreign Affairs and in the KAS event on European-Brazilian cooperation since the change of government in Brazil, which was organised in cooperation with the University IDP in Brasília. The highlights of the programme included an exchange on the German-Brazilian energy partnership with the German-Brazilian Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Rio de Janeiro (AHK Rio), a bilateral exchange with President Lula's foreign policy advisor, Celso Amorim, as well as talks with diplomats and representatives of the PSDB. The dialogue programme aimed at deepening mutual understanding and developing bilateral relations for cooperation at various levels of cooperation, as well as informing the general public about the current state of relations.
