🌏 Event Recap: Why Should I Care About... #ASEAN? 🌏
On Friday 21st February, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Malaysia hosted another impactful session in our "Why Should I Care?" series, diving into ASEAN’s role in shaping the region’s future. With Malaysia set to chair ASEAN in 2025, this conversation came at a crucial time for understanding the bloc’s significance.
Held at Taylor's University 🎓, our co-host for the event, the session brought together over 40 young minds for lively discussions and debates on ASEAN’s relevance today. Participants explored key regional issues, including the Myanmar crisis, trade within ASEAN, and how U.S. foreign policy—particularly under Trump—could impact the region’s economy. The discussion also compared ASEAN and the EU, questioning whether deeper integration is the way forward.
We were honoured to have Andrea Passeri of Taylor’s University, alongside Izzah Ibrahim and Qarrem K. of Institute of Strategic & International Studies (ISIS) Malaysia, who shared expert insights on ASEAN’s impact on governance, security, and economic development. Their perspectives fuelled engaging debates and meaningful reflections on the future of regional cooperation. 🔥
A huge thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to this inspiring dialogue! 💡 KAS Malaysia remains committed to fostering meaningful conversations that empower young leaders to shape the future.
