D&D International - Digital Democracy is pleased to announce its new book "Internet and Pandemic in the Americas. First Health Crisis in the Digital Age", supported by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) Regional Programme "Alliances for Democracy and Development Partnerships with Latin America" (ADELA) based in Panama.
The aim of this volume is to show how the internet has served humanity in different areas in times of COVID-19, with a special focus on Latin America and the Caribbean, from a regional perspective but incorporating global experiences. Similarly, this series of essays analyses the new challenges and risks posed by the pandemic and how they can be addressed in a coordinated way by the many actors working to reduce the social, political and economic impact in society.
The topics are diverse: internet access and human rights online, populism and disinformation, Big Data and open data, telework, teleeducation, digital collaboration, data protection, digital transformation of companies and cybersecurity. Each of these topics will be addressed by leading experts from nine countries across the continent, including: Pablo Legorburu (Argentina), Elaine Ford (Peru), Álvaro Ramírez-Alujas (Chile), Carlos Vera (Ecuador), Germán Escorcia (Mexico), Osvaldo Larancuent (Dominican Republic), Lía Hernández (Panama), Luis Adrián Salazar (Costa Rica) and Cláudio Lucena (Brazil) respectively.
The book is edited by Elaine Ford, founding director of D&D International - Digital Democracy and Winfried Weck, representative of the ADELA - KAS regional programme.
The volume has 296 pages and is printed and distributed from Panama City for the Latin American region. It is also available in pdf format and can be downloaded from the following link: https://www.democraciadigital.pe/publicaciones.
On 27 November, during the VI National Meeting on Digital Democracy, the presentation of the book took place with the participation of the authors and editors, who briefly presented the content of their texts.
